Namibian footballer Tuhafeni Nghuushi, a former Eeshoke Chula Chula forward, has secured a full football scholarship to Lincoln University of Missouri in the United States (US) after impressing during trials organised by Vision2Africa.
The 21-year-old forward, who hails from the Ohangwena region, is now pursuing his academic and football career in the US, marking a big milestone in his football journey.
The striker made his mark in the Ohangwena 2nd Division where he helped his Ohangwena Nampol win the league and qualify for North East First Division play-offs. Nghuushi finished as the top goalscorer with five goals and three assists in four matches, recording eight goal contributions.
His performances did not go unnoticed, and Eeshoke Chula Chula came calling. At the age of 20, he signed for the club in the Namibian Premier League, joining from Ohangwena Nampol FC.
His performances earned him a call-up to Namibia’s national team u20 preliminary squad, although he did not make the final selection.
His breakthrough opportunity came through Vision2Africa, which gave him a platform to showcase his talent during trials.
His impressive performances earned him a full football scholarship to Lincoln University of Missouri, where he will continue his education while competing in football.
According to Vision2Africa, Nghuushi becomes the first player from his home district to receive a football scholarship to study and play in the US.
His US visa has also been approved, allowing him to begin this new chapter of his career.
Speaking about his journey, Nghuushi encourages young Namibian footballers to take advantage of the upcoming scholarship trials.
“I am currently in the United States on a football scholarship at Lincoln University after being scouted by Vision2Africa. Vision2Africa is coming back to Namibia this December to create opportunities for players like they did with me to come to America and pursue their soccer dreams.
“If you are a young footballer looking for an opportunity, make sure you register for the trials. Don’t miss your chance to be the next player joining us here in America,” said Nghuushi.
Vision2Africa will host the second edition of its US Soccer Scholarship Tryouts in Windhoek from 4 to 7 December. The trials are open to boys and girls aged 13 to 23, giving young footballers an opportunity to showcase their talent and potentially earn football scholarships in the US.
Nghuushi’s journey from the Ohangwena region to the US highlights the opportunities international scouting and sport scholarships can create for Namibian players seeking to combine football with education.
