In Samarkand, Rubio will attend a meeting of foreign ministers in the C5+1 format, which brings together the United States and the five Central Asian countries: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
The US secretary of state’s trip to Uzbekistan and India runs from 17 to 22 October, according to a statement issued by the US Department of State on 13 October.
The department said the C5+1 meeting would focus on the role of strategic cooperation in strengthening peace and promoting prosperity in the United States and Central Asia. During his visit, Rubio will also hold bilateral talks with representatives of countries across the region.
More than 200 representatives of US businesses are accompanying the secretary of state, according to the department. Washington expects the visit to help expand trade and economic ties between the United States and Central Asian countries.
After visiting Uzbekistan, Rubio will travel to India. Meetings with Indian officials are scheduled in Mumbai and Jamnagar to discuss the strategic partnership, regional and international issues, and opportunities to expand energy cooperation. The secretary of state will also hold talks with business representatives from both countries.
