Intermountain Health has received a $150 million philanthropic commitment from venture capitalist Ben Horowitz and his wife, Felicia Horowitz, to support the development of Nevada’s first stand-alone children’s hospital.
The Las Vegas hospital will be named Intermountain Health Felicia and Ben Horowitz Children’s Hospital in recognition of the gift, according to an Oct. 23 news release.
The hospital is expected to break ground the week of Oct. 26 and open in 2030 at the UNLV Harry Reid Research and Technology Park in southwest Las Vegas.
The $150 million commitment, which Intermountain described as one of the largest gifts to a children’s hospital in the U.S., will support the recruitment of pediatric specialists, expansion of specialized care programs and advancement of pediatric research. The hospital also plans to address gaps in behavioral health and other specialized pediatric services for Nevada families.
Felicia Horowitz is president of the Horowitz Family Foundation and co-founder and president of The Paid in Full Foundation. Ben Horowitz is co-founder and general partner of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.
“Every parent wants to know that when their child needs care, the very best people and resources are there for them,” Felicia Horowitz said in the release. “Nevada has a responsibility to create a place where exceptional care and exceptional caregivers come together for its children.”
The donation is part of Intermountain’s Nevada Campaign for Kids, a fundraising and community initiative supporting the children’s hospital project.
David Flood, chief development officer of Intermountain Health and president of Intermountain Foundation, said the investment would help accelerate pediatric care development in Nevada by 10 to 15 years.
The project is also part of Intermountain’s broader strategy to build a connected pediatric care network across the states it serves. The health system currently operates Primary Children’s Hospitals in Utah and is expanding pediatric services in Billings, Mont.
The new Las Vegas facility is intended to build on those efforts by connecting pediatric specialty care, research and expertise across the region.
Intermountain operates 34 hospitals and approximately 400 clinics across six Western states.
