Actress Kriti Sanon believes more needs to be done to protect individuals from the potential misuse of AI, particularly when it comes to their images and personality rights.
During a recent event, Sanon expressed concern over the growing capabilities of AI and the challenges it poses to personal rights.
“AI scares me. I think it scares a lot of people. But I feel it is a tool, not a destination. The thing is, it is a very sharp tool, and the sharper the tool, the more dangerous it can be,” she said.
“I am all for technology and innovation. But eventually, laws also have to evolve with technology. I don't know if we are prepared for the kind of things AI can really do. When it comes to personal rights, I feel it is very scary,” she added.
Sanon also highlighted the growing difficulty of distinguishing authentic photographs from AI-generated images, warning that the boundaries between reality and artificial creations are becoming increasingly blurred.
“There is a very thin line between what a real picture looks like and what an AI-created picture looks like,” she said, emphasising the need for appropriate laws.
Pointing to the limitations of social media reporting mechanisms, Sanon noted that platforms such as Instagram lack a clear option to report and remove AI-generated images of individuals.
“So, we are still not evolving as fast as technology is,” she remarked.
