Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been taken to hospital after collapsing while watching the club’s reserve team train on Friday.
The German champions confirmed the incident in a statement on their official X account, saying the 40-year-old Belgian was receiving medical attention and undergoing a thorough examination.
“Vincent Kompany had to seek medical treatment on Friday after collapsing during a Bayern Munich amateurs training session.
“The first-team coach had been watching the second team train.
“Kompany is undergoing a thorough examination in hospital and will remain under medical care.
“Until further notice, his coaching staff will oversee training and matches,” the club said.
Bayern also confirmed that Kompany was “under medical care”.
Earlier reports by Bild and Sky said an emergency doctor accompanied the manager to a hospital in Munich.
A helicopter also landed at the club’s training ground on Säbener Straße but was not needed.
Kompany had been battling a viral infection in recent days, which forced him to miss Bayern’s final training session and press conference ahead of their 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw against Arsenal.
His assistant coach, Aaron Danks, handled the pre-match press conference and stressed the importance of allowing the manager to recover.

“It is very important that he rests,” Danks said on Tuesday, adding that Kompany had also “felt pain in his legs”.
Despite his illness, Kompany returned to the touchline for Bayern’s match against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena.
Speaking about his condition, the former defender admitted that he had continued working despite being unwell.
“As a coach, you always want to do everything and take care of everything. I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, then of course I didn’t listen to my body, and at some point my body said: Now stop!” he said.
Bayern said Kompany would remain under medical care, with his coaching staff overseeing training sessions and matches until further notice.
