A home for Elvis and Priscilla

Presley bought the Trousdale Estates home in 1967, the same year he married Priscilla.

The couple lived there from 1967 to 1973, a period that included the birth of their daughter, Lisa Marie, in 1968.The home gave Presley a West Coast base while he was making films in Los Angeles. During the 1960s, he starred in nearly 30 movies, and the Beverly Hills estate became part of the family’s life away from Memphis and Graceland.Trousdale Estates was an appropriate setting for a major entertainer. The hillside enclave was known for privacy, expansive views, and high-end homes, making it attractive to celebrities who wanted proximity to Hollywood without living in the middle of the city.

A French regency design with views

The residence was built in 1958 in a French Regency style. Its three-bedroom layout was complemented by dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows that framed views stretching from the city to the Pacific Ocean. The 1.18-acre property also included a pool and spa, giving the home the resort-like feel expected in Beverly Hills’ luxury market. Its position on a promontory added to the sense of seclusion while preserving sweeping views. At the time Presley purchased it, the $400,000 price reflected the value of a high-end Beverly Hills property. More than five decades later, the estate’s combination of land, views, and celebrity history helped support a sale price of $25.5 million.

Extensive renovations changed the estate

The home has undergone extensive renovations since Presley’s ownership. Those updates modernised the property while retaining the scale, privacy, and views that made it attractive in the first place.Renovation is common in Trousdale Estates, where many midcentury and 1950s homes have been updated for contemporary buyers. In this case, the changes helped the former Presley estate compete in a market where buyers often expect modern amenities alongside a prestigious address. The renovation also meant that the 2019 sale was not simply a resale of Presley’s original home. It was a reimagined luxury estate with a direct connection to one of the most famous entertainers of the 20th century.

The $25.5 million sale

In 2019, the former Presley estate sold for $25.5 million. That price was more than 60 times the $400,000 Presley paid in 1967.The increase illustrates both long-term appreciation in Beverly Hills and the added appeal of celebrity provenance. A home associated with Elvis Presley carries a story that newer properties cannot replicate, even after significant renovation. The sale also placed the estate among the notable celebrity-linked property transactions in Los Angeles.

Its price reflected the enduring demand for Trousdale Estates homes with large lots, privacy, and panoramic views.

Why celebrity homes hold value

Celebrity homes often attract attention because they offer buyers a tangible connection to cultural history. In Presley’s case, the Beverly Hills estate was where he and Priscilla lived during a formative period in their marriage and where Lisa Marie was born. That history can add emotional and collectible value, but location and land remain central to the price.

The estate’s 1.18-acre lot, hillside setting, and city-to-ocean views gave it fundamentals that supported its high sale price. The property’s transformation also shows how preservation and modernisation can coexist. While the home changed substantially through renovation, its association with Presley remained part of its identity and market appeal.

A broader Elvis Real estate legacy

The Beverly Hills home was only one part of Presley’s real estate story.

His most famous residence, Graceland in Memphis, remains a National Historic Landmark and one of the most visited private homes in the United States.Presley also owned a Palm Springs retreat known as Graceland West and purchased a Holmby Hills home in the early 1970s. Each property reflected a different side of his life, from family life in Memphis to Hollywood work and Las Vegas performances. The Trousdale estate remains especially significant because it captures Presley’s Hollywood years. Its 2019 sale for $25.5 million shows that the places connected to his life can still command extraordinary value decades after his death.
