A Kenyan university has jokingly advised students to reconsider supporting Manchester United, citing the emotional toll of football disappointments as they juggle academic responsibilities.

The message was shared by KCA University alongside a promotional post for its January 2027 intake, inviting students to share what it described as an important memo with fellow students.
Dated Wednesday, October 21, the tongue-in-cheek notice was labelled “office of the university (unofficial)” and urged students to reconsider supporting Manchester United and wearing the club’s jersey.
“Following concerns over students' mental health, sleep patterns and general happiness, students are hereby advised to reconsider supporting Manchester United with immediate effect,” the memo stated.
The university joked that the advisory was intended to protect students from “unnecessary emotional damage, weekend disappointments and Monday-morning heartbreaks”.
It added that students already had enough academic pressure to deal with, including continuous assessment tests (CATs), assignments, graduation clearance and deadlines.
“Adding Manchester United to the list is highly discouraged!” the notice read.
The university instead encouraged students to support its own sporting teams, claiming they performed better than the English Premier League club.
“Your mental health, peace of mind and academic success matter. Choose joy. Choose KCAU. Choose what works!” the memo stated.
The notice also mentioned Chelsea and Arsenal in its accompanying social media message, extending the joke to supporters of the two other prominent English clubs.
Manchester United's recent results fuel the joke
The joke comes amid a difficult run for Manchester United, who have struggled to turn their recent performances into victories.
The club drew 1-1 away to Leeds United in the Premier League on October 18, following another 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on October 10. Between those matches, United lost 2-0 to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on October 13.
Their struggles continued on Wednesday, October 21, when United suffered a 4-1 defeat away to Italian side Como 1907, adding to supporters' frustration.
The results mean United had gone four competitive matches without a win by October 22, including two defeats and two draws.
