Let’s get one thing straight: If you didn’t show love for Golden State Valkyries superstar Gabby Williams before? Don’t even try jumping on the bandwagon now.
Not you, fans – the press.
For those in the know, Williams, a forward who happens to be one of the main keys to the success of the second year WNBA team, has been nothing short of phenomenal since joining the team during the offseason. She’s helped craft a fairytale story out of this season and is ready to take it all the way when the WNBA Finals start on Saturday.
Fans and teammates showed love toward the UConn product– which she respects. But the press who have been dismissive of her throughout her long career? She doesn’t give eight flying hoots about.
When asked about where the respect during her career mostly comes from, Williams didn’t hold back.
“I think it’s come mostly from ex-teammates, opponents, players, friends,” she said on Friday.
“The media’s never respected me. I’ve never expected them to so that’s always been in the back of my head. Well, not in the back of my head, I’ve never paid any mind to the media so if media’s praising me now, I don’t know.
“But what has touched me the most has been, like, I’ve hugged Joel after the game. We beat them, and she’s like ‘hey, this is your moment now.’ You know Paige reaching out to me and Stacey reaching out to me, super. All these players who I’ve seen closely what I’ve gone through my entire career and who have reached out to me and support – that’s really touched me. It’s kind of my path really.”
Heck, most of the main stream media probably doesn’t even know what to quote when she says this:
Williams was selected No. 4 overall in the 2018 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky. In 2025 during her time with the Seattle Storm, she scored 11.6 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. During the regular season in 2026 with the Valks, her ppg moved up to 14.4 in 25.1 minutes per game.
During the postseason thus far? She’s averaging 22.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
The Valkyries take on Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream in a best-of-7 games starting Saturday.
