(ANSA) - ROME, 19 OTT - Premier Giorgia Meloni's government on Monday vowed a firm response from the State to youth riots in Milan over the weekend with measures to be put into a decree Tuesday after a security summit at her office in Palazzo Chigi in Rome.
Following the recent public unrest, "the State will provide a firm response," sources said.
They indicated that the government is examining technical options to enforce a stricter approach, drawing on measures already included in a security bill currently before the Senate.
Potential measures regarding road blockades are also being considered.
It is highly likely that a decree-law will be drafted for swift review by the cabinet—possibly as early as tomorrow.
Furthermore, legislative offices are reportedly evaluating proposals from police forces to identify additional interventions aimed at enhancing the prevention and suppression of such incidents.
Among the possible measures is to extend to minors the possibility of preventive arrest of known troublemakers ahead of public protests that are considered at risk of degenerating into violence.
Another is a specific measure aimed at second-generation North African youths known as 'maranza'.
The right-wing League party tabled an amendment to a citizenship bill Monday that would prohibit immigrant youths found guilty of property damage during riots from applying for citizenship at the age of 18 as they can do a present. (ANSA).
