Ikoyi Club 1938 is set to host a Breast Cancer Awareness Ladies’ Inter-Club Tennis Tournament on Saturday, October 24, featuring four clubs competing in a doubles-only contest.
The Chairman of the club’s tennis section, Victor Onyenkpa, and Ladies Captain, Nora Azubuike, disclosed this on Monday, assuring that preparations for the tournament had been completed.
Azubuike, who is directly involved in organising the event, said the host club would compete against Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Island Club and Heritage Club.
She explained that the teams would compete against one another to determine the finalists and the clubs that would contest for third and fourth positions.
Azubuike said: “The teams will play one another to determine the best two that will play in the final, and the other two will vie for the third and fourth spot.
“A number of sponsors have embraced this event, which is also aimed at educating female members on breast cancer.”
Beyond the tennis competition, the event will feature health education and wellness activities designed to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage early detection.
The activities will include a breast cancer awareness talk, education on breast self-examination and survivor stories featuring personal experiences from breast cancer survivors.
Participants will also have access to free breast cancer screening, blood pressure checks and massage sessions.
