President Nikos Christodoulides leaves for the Netherlands today, where he will deliver a speech at Maastricht University at the invitation of its rectorate.
The speech is titled “Cyprus and the European edifice: Bridging Europe and the Middle East, on the road to strategic autonomy”.
In a written statement, the government spokesman said it would focus on the future of Europe, current geopolitical challenges, the work and results of the Cyprus presidency of the Council of the European Union, and Cyprus’s strategic role as a bridge for cooperation between the EU, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
Late in the evening the president will travel to Brussels to take part in the European Council on October 15 and 16.
Tomorrow he will also attend the summit of the European People’s Party. He will then meet leaders of the member states in the “Friends of Cohesion” group ahead of crucial negotiations on the next EU budget.
On Friday, Mr Christodoulides will attend a meeting of like-minded leaders on migration.
