The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Coronation Street dated October 12. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.
Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) was forced to act fast in Coronation Street today in order to save Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) from death.
Amid her dementia, Debbie is desperate to maintain her independence and occasionally clashes with Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), feeling as though he’s become her carer.
While Ronnie isn’t smothering Debbie, he tries his best to accommodate for her dementia, while acknowledging that Debbie doesn’t want it to define her.
A few days ago, when Debbie announced that she was off to work, Ronnie got a step ahead and told Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott).

When he arrived, Ronnie thanked Ryan for finding some work for Debbie to do. As they chatted, Debbie watched, uncomfortable with the fact they were discussing her.
As today’s episode opened, Debbie was preparing some toast for Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard). She then grabbed a fork and went to adjust the bread in the toaster, failing to remember the appliance was on.
Fortunately, Ronnie spotted what Debbie was doing. He reminded Debbie that she could’ve electrocuted herself, but she couldn’t help but feel as though Ronnie was patronising her.
In the café a while later, Ronnie tried his best to clear the air with Debbie, but she wanted time by herself.
Ronnie ended up speaking to Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) about looking after Debbie, and she urged him to go along to a dementia support group.
He was a bit hesitant, but Ronnie decided to go. Afterwards, Ronnie told Carl where he had been, and he thought it would be beneficial to attend a group session as well.
We know that this storyline will end when Debbie’s dementia claims her life.
Earlier this year, we got a small indication as to when her final scenes will air when star Jonathan Howard, who plays Debbie’s son Carl, confirmed that actress Sue Devaney is contracted with Corrie until August 2027.
Speaking to The Sun at the Inside Soap Awards 2026, Jonathan said: ‘Sue is contracted to August, but already they are ramping up the dementia storyline. It’s going to be very sad, so sad, I love Sue so much.
‘I’m so happy she gets to play my mum and I get to play her son.
‘It’s going to be really emotional because since I started, she’s always held my hand and been there for me.
‘Yesterday, I had lunch with her, Michael Le Vell [Kevin Webster] and Sally Carman who plays Abi, it’s a nice little family we’ve created.
‘So knowing that at some point, it’s still a year down the line, it’s going to come to an end, it’s so sad.’
