Hall of Fame WR Expects Big Things From Marvin Harrison Jr. After Texans Trade

It's no secret that former Ohio State star Marvin Harrison Jr. had failed to live up to the lofty expectations most placed on him early on in his career, ultimately leading to the Arizona Cardinals giving up on him and moving him to the Houston Texans. However, one Hall of Fame wide receiver expects Harrison Jr. to truly thrive in his new change of scenery.

Harrison now finds himself playing alongside a familiar face in Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, who he famously played with at Ohio State.

The ability to separate from NFL defensive backs and issues with drops have plagued Harrison through his first three years in the league. Some see this as a long-term concern that potentially limits his upside as a player.

Former NFL wide receiver Cris Carter views Harrison's struggles a bit differently.

During an appearance on "Up & Adams" on Monday, Carter chalked up some of Harrison's issues to a lack of commitment to running his routes called by the Cardinals, which could obviously change being in a new organization with more direct leadership.

"There was only one thing that I saw watching the film," said Carter. "I had never seen him not going 100 percent on his routes. When I started seeing that the last couple of weeks there in Arizona, I knew it was time potentially to move on."

Carter would go on to claim that he believes that Harrison is now in a perfect situation to succeed in Houston playing under DeMeco Ryans and alongside CJ Stroud, which he believes will bring back "Maserati Marv".

"I don't think there could be a better situation," added Carter. "With CJ Stroud and DeMeco Ryans, some of those other leaders they have on that team. I think we are going to see a different Marv. I think we are going to see the Maserati Marv, my man Gus (Johnson) used to call him on Fox at Ohio State. I think we're going to get that Maserati Marv. I like to see him back in Houston."

On paper, there are a lot of elements to his new situation in Houston that could lead to Harrison succeeding and proving his doubters wrong.

Obviously, the prior connection with Stroud is quite notable. But Harrison will also be coming into a situation where some of the pressure of being a No. 1 wide receiver, which was expected of him early in his career in Arizona, will not be on him playing alongside Nico Collins.

And while the Texans have underperformed as a team in their own right this season, the Texans organization has proven in prior years that they have the kind of talent on their roster to vie for a playoff spot in the AFC, reaching the postseason each of the last three seasons.

The Texans have their most important game of the season coming in Week 6, where they will have a real opportunity gain ground when they take on the AFC South-leading Jacksonville Jaguars in London. So it will certainly be interesting to see what kind of impact Harrison can make in his first week with his new organization.
