The results for HSC and equivalent examinations will be published on any day between 25 and 29 October, said officials at the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee on Monday.
The committee has sent a proposal in this regard to the Education Ministry, said Prof Syed Akteruzzaman, president of the body.
Earlier in the day, chairmen from different education boards discussed the result publication, and other relevant issues at a meeting held at the Dhaka Board, Bakshibazar in the capital.
At the meeting, the board chairmen also agreed to hold the re-tests for failed examinees within two months of the result publication, said Prof Syed Akteruzzaman, also chairman of the Dhaka Board.
Afterwards, the issue was also discussed with ministry officials, who supported the timeline for re-tests, he added.
The re-tests would be launched from this very year to make the system regular, Akteruzzaman said.
Re-tests for failed public examination candidates have been historically held a year after result publication with the next batch of examinees. But from this year, the BNP government has expressed its desire to bring down the waiting period for unsuccessful candidates of SSC and HSC exams to three months.
The early re-tests cannot be launched for failed SSC candidates this year, as the college enrollment process for passed candidates has already begun, Akteruzzaman said, hinting the process could be launched next year.
Earlier, on Saturday, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin said the government was actively considering holding re-tests for failed examinees within three months of result publication instead of keeping them waiting for a year.
The government would hold talks with education board chairmen on the matter, Mahdi Amin said at an event held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
