By Hari Prasad Koirala, Urlabari, Oct. 12: Nepal Police Club (NPC) won the title of the 3rd International Invitational Pathari-Shanishchare Gold Cup held in Pathari, Morang.
Police Club secured the title by defeating Jhapa-XI 5–4 in a penalty shootout. Along with the title, Police Club received a cash prize of Rs. 600,000. Runners-up Jhapa-11 had to settle for a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 300,000.
The final match, held on Saturday at Pathari Stadium, ended in a 2–2 draw within regulation time, forcing a decision via a penalty shootout.
For NPC, Amit Tamang, Niraj Khadka, Dasharath Giri, Ram Waji, and Sujan Balampaki Magar scored in the shootout.
For Jhapa-11, Devendra Tamang, Prashant Laksham, Roman Bhujel, and Ashish Chapagain scored; however, Nima Tamang's shot hit the crossbar and went out of play.
In the 25th minute of regulation time, John Bista scored the opening goal to give Police the lead. After halftime, Jhapa-11 staged a comeback when Prashant Laksham scored to level the match at 1–1. In the 73rd minute, Subas Tharu of Police Club scored a brilliant goal to restore his team's lead.
However, the lead established by Tharu did not last even three minutes. Ashish Chapagain, who entered the field as a substitute for Phaguram Tharu of Jhapa-11, scored in the 76th minute to bring Jhapa-11 back to level terms.
Roman Bhujel of Police Club was named the 'Man of the Match' for the final. Similarly, Amit Tamata of Police Club won the title of Best Goalkeeper, while Bishal Darlami Magar of the organizing club, Pathari-11 Football Club, was named the Emerging Player.
Pratap Rai of Jhapa was declared the highest goalscorer while Chetan Ghimire of Police Club was named the tournament's Best Coach, and Sujan Balampaki Magar of Police Club was adjudged the tournament's Best Player.
Ganesh Karki (MP for Morang-3), Mohan Prasad Tumbapo (Mayor of Pathari-Shanishchare Municipality), James Karki (Secretariat member of the Ministry of Home Affairs), and Suman BK (Club President) presented the awards and cash prizes to the winners, runners-up, and individual award recipients.
