Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell detailed what went wrong in that all-important seventh inning that turned what had been an excellent outing into disaster against the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2026 National League Championship Series.
How did Blake Snell play in the NLCS?
Snell started the game by giving up a home run on his first pitch, but after that, he was absolutely dominant, striking out nine batters in the next six innings.
That seventh inning, though, was one to forget.
The Dodgers had just gained their first lead of the night on a two-RBI double by Will Smith in the bottom of the sixth inning, but in the top of the seventh, Snell began by walking Andrew Vaughn.
After that, Snell took on Jake Bauers for an 11-pitch at-bat that ended with a monster two-run home run.
The next batter, Garret Mitchell, also homered, quickly turning the Dodgers’ advantage into a 4-2 Brewers lead.
Snell was then pulled from the game, and Milwaukee would only add to the lead from there, creating a 3-0 series lead that will be nearly impossible for the Dodgers to overcome.
It also created a lot of questions among Dodgers fans, including how Snell’s performance yo-yoed so wildly over the course of his start.
Blake Snell breaks down what went wrong against Brewers
After the game, Snell told reporters that it’s “pretty frustrating” to give up three home runs, especially seeing as he hadn’t even given up one homer in his limited playing time this season.
“It’s something I’ve got to learn from, it’s part of their journey too, and it’s only going to make me better in the long run,” he said from the clubhouse.
Snell also discussed the Bauers at-bat, noting that he’s known Bauers for years and after the Brewer’s up-and-down career, “he’s earned it.”
“Hats off to him. What an at-bat,” he said. “I threw everything I had. Fastball down the middle, if I could locate that better, who knows what would have happened? This is the best I’ve ever seen him play. It’s a good at-bat. Hats off to him.”
Snell also addressed the Dodgers facing elimination and a possible sweep at Dodger Stadium on Thursday.
The game will begin at 5 p.m. PT, not 6 p.m. PT as originally announced.
“Yeah, it sucks, but it’s part of it,” he said. “How do we bounce back, how do we fight? I think that’s the most important thing, us coming together and finding a way to win.”
