Texas will face perhaps college football's best quarterback Saturday when Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss comes to Austin. The Longhorns (4-2, 1-2 SEC) will likely do so without their best defensive player.
Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons is listed as doubtful for the upcoming SEC contest at Royal-Memorial Stadium. Simmons exited last week's 27-24 loss to the Florida Gators early in the fourth quarter due to a right-leg injury, and he did not return to the game.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said Saturday he believed Simmons suffered a right-knee injury against Florida, but was unaware of the injury's severity. Sarkisian didn't elaborate on Simmons' injury Monday, but Orangeblood's Anwar Richardson reported Simmons will miss three-to-four weeks due to a high-ankle sprain.

Simmons will look to continue his climb up two all-time Texas leaderboards upon his potential return to the field this week/later this season. Simmons raised his career sack total to 31 1/2 in the loss to Florida, moving him to No. 3 on Texas' all-time leaderboard (and nine sacks behind Kiki DeAyala's program-record 40.5 sacks). Simmons also has DeAyala's single-season record in his sights. Simmons exited the weekend with 10 1/2 sacks in 2026, 12 sacks behind DeAyala's record-setting 22 1/2-sack season in 1982.
Colin Simmons gave Texas everything he had until his body wouldn't let him 💔 7 TKL, 4 TFL, 1 SACK, 2 QBH vs Florida He went down with an ankle injury early in the fourth, and Texas couldn't hold on without him. https://t.co/OZmGVxLLKf

Simmons' exit against Florida halted his statistical climb and hindered the Longhorns defense. Texas will likely now be without Simmons against Ole Miss and Chambliss, a scary situation after back-to-back SEC losses.
