By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A late night ride through Orange Walk Town ended with a young man facing three traffic charges.
Officers on patrol early Saturday morning stopped a motorcycle carrying two men on Naranjal Street. The rider told police his licence was at home.
But when officers took him there to check, they found that his driver’s licence had expired more than a year ago, in September 2025. The motorcycle’s licence was also out of date, and its insurance disc had expired at the start of September.
Dathan Raasaun Smith, 24, a labourer of Savannah Street, was taken to the Orange Walk Police Station and formally charged around 2:30am.
The charges are driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, driving without third party risk insurance and driving without a valid driver’s licence.
He was released on $800 police bail.
Police are urging motorists and riders to keep their driver’s licences, vehicle licences and insurance up to date, warning that patrols are continuing day and night.
