South African musician and internet sensation The Kiffness has done it again, turning an awkward political moment into a catchy tune that has listeners everywhere hitting replay.
In a split-screen video shared on 23 October 2026, Cape Town-born artist David Scott, known professionally as The Kiffness, filmed himself in his home studio, acoustic guitar in hand, reacting to footage of United States President Donald Trump speaking at a live rally in Clemson, South Carolina. Mid-sentence, while discussing former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Trump emitted a strange guttural noise that immediately caught the internet's attention. Whether it was a burp, a hiccup, a dry heave, or something else entirely, nobody could quite agree — though comedian Jimmy Fallon later described it on The Tonight Show as "a burp, a hiccup and a dry heave all in one."
Scott's reaction in the video is priceless. Visibly startled, he replays the clip before doing what he does best: building a groove around it. The result is a funky, infectious loop built on Trump's repeated phrase "I took the Governor," punctuated each time by the mystery noise. Scott layers in his own vocals, adding lyrics like:
"Oh 90 per cent of the reason I took the Governor *burp*" before singing, "Excuse me, what I was trying to say was 90 percent of the reason I took the Governor *burp*."
Watch The Kiffness turn Trump's rally moment into a full song:
Listeners flooded the comments section on the Facebook page with their own delight.
@Jodie Hirtle Toberer wrote:
"I am sitting in oncology office waiting for the doctors visit and I opened this up and I cannot stop laughing! Thank you for making me laugh! 🤣"
@David Spinnett noted:
"Cracks me up how you can turn literally any nonsensical noise or utterance into a catchy tune. Well done 🙂"
@Andrea Withers summed it up simply:
"This is proof you can turn ANYTHING into magic! Brilliant!"
@Trish England quipped:
"That was a glitch in the Musk NeuroLink upgrade."
@Logun Ervin had a fair point of his own:
"But did he ever get to say why he took the governer, lol."
@Jinny Hawkins perhaps captured the mood most honestly:
"We have to laugh or else we'd cry."
For The Kiffness, political satire is well-trodden territory. His 2024 viral hit They're Eating the Cats earned hundreds of millions of views and raised funds for animal welfare causes. This latest offering suggests his ear for absurdity remains as sharp as ever.
