Imran Khan has reportedly been ordered to leave the country by October 28 after being detained during a protest, with authorities issuing a formal notice setting the deadline for his departure.
The Bollywood actor, who is Aamir Khan’s nephew, received the notice after attending a demonstration in Mumbai.
According to Indian media reports citing police, Khan received a Leave India Notice (LIN) following his participation in a protest at August Kranti Maidan demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
Authorities said the action related to his participation in the demonstration despite not being an Indian citizen.
Before his detention, Khan said he had joined the gathering as someone living in the city, rather than as a representative of any organization.
“I am here to see why freedom of movement is being restricted,” he said, also questioning why people’s voices were being suppressed.
Videos of his detention subsequently circulated online, along with a photograph he posted after being taken into custody.
The demonstration followed allegations that an electoral roll revision could exclude eligible voters. The Election Commission has rejected wrongdoing, saying the exercise aims to remove duplicate and ineligible entries.
