The high court on Monday directed the Kolkata Police Commissioner to ensure complete security for Beleghata Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya also directed police commissioner Ajay Nand to file a report on the matter.
In September, Ghosh moved a petition seeking directions to the authorities to take appropriate security measures, alleging that he feared being killed by BJP supporters who had allegedly attacked him several times recently.
On Monday, Ghosh's counsel told the court that the MLA enjoyed Y-category security cover. "But that has been scaled down. He now has only two security guards," he told the court.
Justice Bhattacharyya, however, questioned how the MLA could be attacked in the presence of two security guards and declined to order the deployment of additional personnel for Ghosh.
The state lawyer told the court that the police had already taken measures to ensure adequate security for the MLA.
