IMPHAL, Oct 18: The Peoples' Democratic Alliance (PDA) Khurai Block Committee organised a political conference on the theme "Need of unity for restoration of peace and normalcy" at Khurai Popular High School Ground today.
At the event, PDA president and former Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar expressed confidence that the candidates fielded by the party will secure victory in the upcoming elections.
If people give their mandate to the PDA, it will work towards bringing peace and normalcy, he said.
If the PDA is successful in the 2027 elections, the party will work to abrogate Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, and deploy highway protection force to secure and ensure free movement on the highways, he said.
There may not be peace in Manipur until internally displaced persons are allowed to return to their respective homes, he said.
In case the return of the IDPs to Moreh and Churachandpur is not feasible, then houses for them will be constructed at proper places for their resettlement, he added.
Joykumar said the State needs a strong Government which can act on its own without being influenced by the Centre to protect its integrity.
He encouraged communities to come together and unite to foster peaceful coexistence and protect the State's territorial integrity.
Laitonjam Jayanand, spokesperson of the party and intending candidate from Khurai, also spoke at the conference and encouraged people of all communities to unite. To protect Manipur, communities must unite and coexist peacefully, he said, encouraging people to contribute towards restoring peace and normalcy.
