Shabwa – Authorities in Yemen's Shabwa Governorate announced that the death toll from a Houthi attack on a government military camp has risen to 54 soldiers, marking one of the deadliest assaults in the province in recent months.
According to local officials, dozens of other troops were wounded in the attack, which targeted a military facility belonging to government forces in Shabwa.
The injured were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment, while emergency teams continued efforts to account for casualties and assess the extent of the damage.
Provincial authorities condemned the attack, describing it as a serious escalation that underscores the persistent security challenges facing government-controlled areas despite ongoing efforts to stabilize liberated regions.
Military sources said the strike caused significant losses among government troops and triggered heightened security measures across key military positions in the governorate. Reinforcements were reportedly deployed to the area amid concerns of further attacks.
The Iran-backed Houthi movement has intensified military operations on several fronts in recent weeks, with clashes and missile attacks reported in multiple governorates, including Marib, Taiz, and Shabwa.
The latest attack is expected to further complicate efforts aimed at reducing violence in Yemen, where years of conflict have left thousands dead and deepened the country's humanitarian crisis.
