UFC bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison is fed up with Demetrious Johnson's takes.
Former UFC flyweight champion Johnson advised Harrison (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) against fighting Amanda Nunes, calling it a "very bad idea." Harrison also took umbrage with Johnson laughing boisterously about Natalia Silva vs. Wang Cong being the main event of UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, which Silva ended up winning.
"I'm just kind of over 'Mighty's' attitude," Harrison said on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "First of all, he's the one that said I shouldn't fight Amanda, I should retire. This mindset of scarcity is detrimental to the growth of the sport. There's enough room at the table for all of us to eat, and we don't have to belittle, or poke fun, or put down anyone else to build our own brand.
"I just don't believe in that, and especially for a retired fighter. Of course those girls are not stars yet. But you know how you build a star? You f*cking put them in the main event and you build them. You have to start somewhere, so to talk sh*t about them like that, I feel is just unnecessary – super unnecessary."
Harrison makes her first title defense against the returning Amanda Nunes (23-5 MMA, 16-2 UFC) in the UFC 334 co-main event at Madison Square Garden in New York.
