The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has taken action against three bars in Guwahati for alleged violations of excise rules, suspending the licence of The Locals Bar and imposing fines of Rs 1 lakh each on Club Blues and Kharka Bar-cum-Restaurant.
The action against The Locals Bar follows an incident in which a young woman was allegedly assaulted at the establishment. The Excise Department said it had obtained evidence related to the incident and also found that the bar had remained open until the early hours of the morning.
Based on these findings, the authorities suspended the bar's licence with immediate effect.
The district administration also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on Club Blues in Kahilipara and Kharka Bar-cum-Restaurant for alleged violations of excise regulations.
The establishments have been directed to deposit the fines within two days. According to the notice issued to Club Blues, failure to pay within the stipulated period could lead to cancellation of its licence.
The Excise Department has also instructed the managements to operate their establishments in strict compliance with the prescribed rules and regulations.
All three establishments had previously received show-cause notices from the authorities over alleged violations. After examining the responses and available information, the administration decided to take action against the bars.
