BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football receiver Charlie Becker sought out Ohio State coach Ryan Day after Saturday's 19-15 loss to apologize.
Becker, who finished the game with nine catches for 165 yards, expressed regret over the vulgar OSU taunt he used while celebrating IU's win over the Buckeyes in last year's Big Ten title game. The Fox broadcast aired the moment on their broadcast.
On Saturday, Becker offered a heartfelt apology to Day at midfield — an exchange captured on camera — by WCMH TV's Joe Nugent.
"I'm really sorry about that," Becker told Day. "That's not me, and I'm saying sorry to you and Ohio State."
Becker emerged as IU's top playmaker and fan favorite at midseason last year. He made a series of highlight reel catches to help the Hoosiers go 16-0 and win a national title. He came into the season as a projected first round pick and lived up to those lofty expectations.
The rivalry against the Buckeyes is personal for Becker with his father having played linebacker at the school. He grew up a OSU fan, but never received any real recruiting interest from the school.
