KUALA LUMPUR: Chong Li Qian continued his giant-killing run while Lim Boon Le and Carine Tee also booked places in the last 16 as Malaysia's singles challenge gathered momentum at the World Junior Championships in Cairo today.
Li Qian, who stunned fourth seed Yaidel Gil of Spain a day earlier, followed up by taking down Denmark's 28th seed Frederik Hinding 15-13, 15-11 in 27 minutes.
The unseeded Malaysian will now face another seeded opponent in India's No. 14 Jagsher Singh Khangurra for a place in the quarter-finals.
Seventeenth seed Boon Le also advanced after a tight 15-13, 18-16 victory over India's Akhil Reddy Bobba.
A much tougher assignment awaits him next against second seed Riyan Malhan of the United Arab Emirates.
There was disappointment for fifth seed Kong Wei Xiang, who fell 15-9, 15-11 to India's Nishchal Chand.
Carine, meanwhile, had to dig deep for 49 minutes before overcoming Indonesia's Mayla Cahya Afilian Pratiwi 15-11, 10-15, 15-11, to keep the nation's challenge in the girls singles competition intact.
The 10th seed will now test herself against Japan's top seed Saki Matsumoto in the girls' singles last 16.
Lee Kay Xin and Saidatul Saadiah Muhammad also bowed out in the girls' singles, losing to Indonesia's Raisya Affatunisa 15-8, 15-8 and Hong Kong fifth seed Ip Sum Yau 15-10, 15-7 respectively.
Malaysia continued to make headway in the doubles as well.
