BJP chief calls for renewed commitment from party workers

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday (October 21, 2026) urged the younger generation of party workers to draw inspiration from their predecessors and work towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat [developed India]”.

At the 75^th foundation day of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Mr. Nabin said the BJP would continue along the path established by its ideological and political predecessor.

He said the seed of the Jana Sangh, planted by leaders such as Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya with the spirit of “Nation First” and “Antyodaya [welfare of the people in the bottom of the pyramid]” had today grown into the world’s largest political party, BJP.

The programme was attended by BJP State president Harsh Malhotra, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assembly Speaker Virendra Gupta and other party leaders.

Reflecting on the journey of the Jana Sangh, he spoke about the “nationalist vision” that inspired the creation of an organisation. “At that time, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, despite being a Union Minister, had a broad national outlook... The government of that era appeared to be influenced by Western and Leftist ideas and did not demonstrate the required commitment towards nationalist thought and national interest,” said Mr. Nabin.

“It was under such circumstances that Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, after consultations with his colleagues, not only resigned from the Union Cabinet but also sent a clear message to the nation that he was prepared to struggle for the fulfilment of the original objectives of India’s freedom. It was with this nationalist consciousness and resolves that the Bharatiya Jana Sangh was established,” he said, listing the contributions made by the organisation.

“Whether it was the question of integrating Goa with India in 1961 or protecting the interests of Hindu-majority regions in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh consistently raised its voice in support of national interest,” said Mr. Nabin.

“If the BJP of the future is to be built, the present generation must work with the same spirit of dedication and struggle,” he said, asking the party workers to embrace new technologies and adapt to changing times while also “learning from their history, the struggles of their predecessors, and their spirit of sacrifice”.
