MakersPlace announced its closure in 2025 after struggling with deteriorating conditions for digital art. Its account of the shutdown describes efforts to preserve access to works and help users recover assets held through its custody arrangements. NFTs also have uses that are not repeated marketplace trades. A gallery can be maintained for long held art while trading remains light. A game item can be useful inside a game without changing hands every week. These use cases do not automatically finance a broad trading terminal.
