Fresh off their improbable tie against the Commanders, the New York Giants (3-1-1) return home to MetLife Stadium Sunday looking to maintain their hold on first place in the NFC East when they host the New Orleans Saints (1-4). The Saints have lost three in a row and sit last in the NFC South.
New Orleans is coming off a 23-13 loss to the Vikings. New Orleans has struggled defensively, allowing no fewer than 23 points in a game and allowing an average of a little more than 30 points per game this season. Their offense is one-dimensional. Their passing game is dangerous, but they simply can’t run the ball. Through five games, the Saints have rushed for a total of only 409 yards. Second-year quarterback Tyler Shough has thrown for 1,299 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions through five games. His favorite target is Chris Olave, who has caught 39 passes for 537 yards.
The outlook is much brighter for the Giants. They are coming off a dramatic 27-27 overtime tie against the Commanders that almost feels like a win. After falling behind by two touchdowns, New York rallied behind veteran quarterback Jameis Winston who has tossed three touchdown passes in each of New York’s last two games. The Giants’ defense has been the true strength of the team, recording six interceptions through five games and helping the club maintain a positive turnover differential.
Bottom line: If the Saints fail to establish the run, their defense could be in store for a long afternoon in the swamps of Jersey.
Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an additional sweat or two.

Our model calculates projections around each moneyline, spread and over/under bet for every game on the NFL calendar based on data points like past performance, player matchups, betting trends, and weather forecasts.
Once the model is finished running, we put its projection next to the latest betting lines for the game to arrive at a relative confidence level for each wager.
Here are the best bets our model is projecting for Sunday’s game between the Saints and the Giants:
- Moneyline: NBC Sports is leaning towards a play on the Giants on the Moneyline.
- Spread: NBC Sports is recommending a play on the Giants +1.5.
- Total: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Game Total of 45.5.
Here’s why the Giants +1.5 is the Best Bet:
The Saints are being priced like the team that beat Baltimore in Week 2, but the 2026 version has been a disaster. New Orleans ranks 30th in total DVOA (-37.7%), 31st in defensive DVOA (20.5%), and 26th in offensive DVOA (-13.6%). They’ve allowed 151 points (31st) and 18 touchdowns (29th) through five games, and they’re giving up 30.2 points per game (31st). That matters enormously against a Giants’ team that ranks ninth in points allowed (21.2 per game), seventh in passing yards allowed (219.8 per game), and first in interceptions (6). This is a defense that takes the ball away and limits explosive plays.
Murray, Vikings offense turns in best game of year
Mike Florio and Chris Simms react to the Minnesota Vikings defeating the New Orleans Saints with Kyler Murray looking comfortable and the offense playing the best game of the season.
