Mohamad Elmasry, a professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, says recent developments hint at a return to full-scale war between Iran and the US and Israel rather than peace talks.
“There is a lot of signalling, a lot of posturing suggesting that we are headed for another round of fighting,” he told Al Jazeera in Doha.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was in Israel recently and the United States is bringing a third aircraft carrier to the Middle East. Washington is reportedly evacuating “some of their diplomatic sites and military bases in the region”, Elmasry noted.
“All of that would suggest that the US and Israel are planning another round of attacks on Iran, either soon or very soon,” he said.
“One of the fears is this next round of fighting could actually be more dangerous, more catastrophic than the previous round.”
