William Charles Beresford, 59, of Glace Bay, is charged with two counts of violating the Income Tax Act on May 11, 2026.
According to documents filed in Sydney provincial court, the Canada Revenue Agency sent Beresford a notice of requirement dated Dec. 10, 2025, ordering him to provide his completed and signed T1 income tax and benefit form for 2023.
The charges state that Beresford was then personally served with a notice of requirement on March 10, 2026.
A subsequent email by a Canada Revenue Agency field officer to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada supporting criminal charges stated it would be in the “public interest to proceed and that there is a reasonable prospect of conviction” in the case.
Beresford is now expected to appear in Sydney provincial court on Oct. 27 to enter pleas on the charges.
