KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin described the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional's registration as a reminder for coalition leaders to treat all component parties fairly.
The Bersatu president said coalition leadership must also comply with the party constitution and the Societies Act 1966.
"Do not abuse power or position for the interests of a particular party or group to the extent that the coalition deviates from its original purpose and objectives," he said in a statement today.
Muhyiddin, who is also PN's founder, said he was saddened by the decision to cancel the coalition's registration.
"I will discuss the way forward with Bersatu leaders at a special Political Bureau meeting tonight," said the Pagoh MP.
Earlier today, the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) confirmed it cancelled PN's registration, saying the coalition's explanation failed to address the grounds for cancellation outlined in an earlier notice.
RoS said the decision was made under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832), after reviewing the documents and representations submitted by PN on Oct 12.
