Agartala, Oct 22: The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) on Thursday lodged a formal complaint with Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban, West Tripura) Dhruba Nath, demanding the immediate registration of an FIR over the alleged racial harassment and inappropriate physical contact involving a youth from Tripura in New Delhi.
The complaint concerns a 52-second video uploaded on September 19, 2026, featuring Delhi-based content creator Amir Shokeen. The video allegedly shows the youth being mocked for his physical appearance, questioned about his country of origin and subjected to sexually degrading remarks and inappropriate physical contact, while bystanders laughed.
After submitting the complaint at the West Tripura SP Office, TSF General Secretary Hamalu Jamatia said people from the Northeast should not have to repeatedly prove their Indian identity.
“This is not the first time people from the Northeast have faced harassment. There have been several incidents of harassment, assault and even murder in the past,” Jamatia said.
He urged the Centre and concerned authorities to take steps to prevent such incidents and called for solidarity across the region.
TSF President Pintu Debbarma and General Secretary Hamalu Jamatia also called for the preservation of digital evidence, protection of the victim’s privacy and accountability for those involved under applicable laws.
Additional SP Dhruba Nath assured the TSF delegation that a dedicated Tripura Police team would be sent to New Delhi to coordinate with Delhi Police and pursue the necessary legal steps, according to the federation.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, has directed Director General of Police G.S. Rao to coordinate with Delhi Police officials to ensure appropriate legal action.
