Armenia will appoint a military attaché to its embassy in Canada. The relevant decision was made at the Armenian government’s Cabinet meeting on Thursday.
This position will be combined with the position of military attaché to the Armenian embassy in the US.
The explanation of this decision states that Armenia and Canada effectively cooperate in bilateral and multilateral formats, which is a reliable basis for the full realization of existing cooperation opportunities in the defense sector.
At this phase, cooperation in the defense sector may include the training of instructors, joint participation in international peacekeeping missions, protection of the rights of servicewomen, civilian oversight of the armed forces, as well as exchange of experience in internal audit and the introduction of anticorruption mechanisms, and in the future—periodic bilateral military-political consultations in security and defense, military education, training of professional non-commissioned officers, combat training of personnel, military medicine, and exchange of experience in various professional fields and other programs.
In addition, Armenia greatly values the consistent development and expansion of bilateral cooperation with Canada as an important bridge between Armenia and NATO.
