KUANTAN: Pekan will be the third district in Pahang, after Kuantan and Rompin, to close schools tomorrow due to worsening haze, the Pahang Education Department said.
In a statement, the department said all educational institutions under its jurisdiction in the three districts would be closed, with Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) conducted.
"The department prioritises the safety, health and well-being of students and teachers amid the current haze situation," it said.
The department said the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations would proceed as scheduled.
The examinations would be conducted in compliance with the prevailing standard operating procedures and safety measures, the statement said.
Candidates and examination personnel were advised to refer to further announcements and instructions from their schools, examination centres and the department's official channels.
The department urged parents to ensure that students attending lessons or sitting examinations wore face masks.
As of 5pm, two air quality monitoring stations in Pahang had recorded unhealthy readings, with Balok Baru in Kuantan registering an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 159 and Rompin recording 157.
