The Jigawa State Government says it will review the N5,000 monthly allowance paid to National Youth Service Corps members serving in the state, as the rising cost of living continues to put pressure on young Nigerians.
Governor Umar Namadi announced this while interacting with Batch C, 2026 corps members at the Yakubu Gowon NYSC Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse.
He acknowledged their contributions to community development and said the planned increase would help improve their welfare.
The governor also announced a one-off payment of N10,000 to each corps member at the end of the three-week orientation programme to support their movement to their primary places of assignment.

The state government further pledged to renovate the orientation camp, construct a new hall and provide a standby generator to improve facilities.
Governor Namadi urged corps members to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities and make the most of their service year. He also encouraged them to embrace agriculture and contribute to Nigeria’s food security.
He directed ministries, departments and agencies not to reject corps members posted to them, while calling on local government officials and traditional rulers to give them a warm welcome.
The governor also advised the corps members to maintain good conduct and avoid activities that could jeopardise their service year.
Reacting to the announcement, two corps members, Gloria Gideon and Sadiq Ibrahim, described Jigawa as peaceful and welcoming. They welcomed the planned review of the state allowance, saying it would help them cope with the rising cost of living.
The proposed increase, however, is yet to be quantified, as the state government has not announced the new monthly rate or when it will take effect.
