TANDO ADAM, Oct 24 (APP):An awareness rally was held at the Taluka Hospital Tando Adam on the occasion of World Polio Day to pay tribute to the services of polio workers and raise public awareness about polio eradication.
The rally, which started from the hospital auditorium and concluded at the main gate, was led by District Health Officer Dr. Muhammad Farooq Arain and Assistant Commissioner Tando Adam Hunain Tariq Shahani. A large number of doctors, paramedical staff and other health department employees participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Farooq Arain and Assistant Commissioner Hunain Tariq Shahani appreciated the dedication of polio workers, saying they continued to perform their duties despite extreme heat, rain and other challenging conditions.
They said polio workers visited households to administer polio vaccine drops to children under five years of age, adding that their efforts were essential for protecting children against the crippling disease and achieving complete polio eradication in the country.
They informed that more than 1,500 polio teams were working across the district during each vaccination campaign, covering homes, remote areas, railway stations, transit points and hospitals to ensure that no child was missed.
They added that records of children at public and private hospitals were regularly monitored to identify suspected polio cases, while samples from suspected cases were sent for further laboratory testing.
According to the officials, no new positive polio case had been reported in the district from 2024 through October 2026.
They urged parents to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that every child under five received polio drops during each campaign. They further advised parents to visit the nearest polio vaccination centre if a team could not reach their homes.
The officials stressed that sustained public cooperation and the continued efforts of frontline health workers were essential to protect children and eliminate polio from the country.
