Peso da Régua and the Douro Valley are among my favourite places in Portugal.

We come to Régua regularly, and a walk across its pedestrian bridge is something we never miss. With the river below and the hills stretching into the distance, the views are beautiful whichever way you look.
The structure is known as the Ponte Metálica and was constructed in 1872; at first it was built for use by road vehicles and was afterwards restored so as to serve as a pedestrian walkway, providing visitors with a lovely spot in which to enjoy the river and the surrounding scenery.
Régua’s story is closely connected to Port wine. Barrels once left from here aboard traditional rabelo boats, travelling down the Douro to the wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Today, the town remains a good starting point for exploring the valley, with its wine estates and terraced vineyards covering the hillsides.
What I love most about this area is the scenery. Even after several visits, I always find myself taking another photo.
