UFC 333 Main Event: Alexander Volkanovski vs. Movsar Evloev
Alexander Volkanovski (28-4) is a two-time UFC featherweight champion. He held the title from December 2019 through February 2024, defending the belt five times over that time. His reign began with a unanimous decision win over Max Holloway and ended in a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in February 2024. He regained the vacant belt in April 2025 with his decision win over Diego Lopes.
During his first run with the 145-pound belt, Volkanovski twice fought for the UFC lightweight belt, losing to Islam Makhachev in February and October 2023. Makhachev won the first meeting by decision. The 155-pound champ followed that with a knockout victory over Volkanovski.
Following his loss to Makhachev in October 2023, he dropped the 145-pound to Topuria. More than a year later, Volkanovski bounced back with his win over Lopes at UFC 314.
The featherweight title was left vacant ahead of UFC 314 when Topuria moved up to lightweight, winning that belt at UFC 317 with a knockout victory over Charles Oliveira.
In his first defense of his second title reign, Volkanovski defeated Lopes by unanimous decision at UFC 325 in February.
Movsar Evloev (20-0) made his UFC debut in April 2019 in a featherweight contest against Choi Seung-woo. At the time he stepped into the UFC Octagon for the first time, Evloev was 10-0 and coming off a defense of the M-1 Global bantamweight crown. Evloev, defeated Choi via unanimous decision.
Over the next five years, Evloev would climb the featherweight rankings, facing progressively tougher opponents under the UFC banner. In 2021, Evloev scored a decision over Hakeem Dawodu, which set him up for a January 2022 matchup against Ilia Topuria. However, Evloev was forced from that card after testing positive for COVID-19. In February 2024, Topuria would defeat Alexander Volkanovski to become the UFC featherweight champion.
Evloev next competed in June 2022, defeating Dan Ige. He followed that with wins over Diego Lopes in May 2023 and Arnold Allen in January 2024.
The 32-year-old Evloev is coming off a statement win over former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. Evloev won that three-round contest at UFC 310 in December 2024 via unanimous decision.
Evloev was booked for a July 2025 matchup with Aaron Pico, but that fight fell through due to an Evloev injury. In his most recent booking, Evloev remained perfect, defeating Lerone Murphy via majority decision in the main event of a UFC Fight Night in March of this year.

UFC 333 Co-Main Event: Petr Yan Vs. Merab Dvalishvili 3
Merab Dvalishvili (21-5), a long-time training partner of former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling stepped into the spotlight of the promotion’s 135-pound division in September 2014 when he scored a unanimous decision win over then-champion Sean O’Malley in the main event of UFC 306.
The 34-year-old Dvalishvili joined the UFC in 2017 as much-hyped prospect. At the time, Dvalishvili was 7-2 and had won and defended the Ring of Combat bantamweight crown.
Dvalishvili did not have a smooth start to his UFC run, losing his first two fights. Falling to Frankie Saenz by decision, and the second, to Ricky Simon, via submission. In September 2018, things clicked in place for the Serra-Longo Fight Team product, and he has not lost since.
Heading into UFC 306, Dvalishvili was on a 10-fight winning streak. Prior to his matchup against O’Malley, Dvalishvili had defeated Marlon Moraes, Jose Aldo, Petr Yan, and Henry Cejudo. The win over O’Malley stretched his winning streak to 11 straight. Dvalishvili extended that streak to 12 when he defended his title with a unanimous decision win over the previously unbeaten Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311.
Dvalishvili faced O’Malley in a rematch at UFC 316. O’Malley had not fought since he lost his title to Dvalishvili at UFC 306. Despite making wholesale changes to his life and training heading into UFC 316, Dvalishvili easily dispatched O’Malley in their second meeting, ending the fight in the third round via submission.
Then, at UFC 320, Dvalishvili outworked Sandhagen, earning a unanimous decision win (49-45, 49-45, 49-46).
In his fourth title fight of the calendar year, Dvalishvili dropped a decision to Yan in the main event of UFC 323, ending his title reign.
The former champ has not stepped into the Octagon since that setback.
Petr Yan (20-5) is in his second UFC title reign.
Yan was 6-0 in the UFC and coming off a knockout of Urijah Faber when he won the vacant UFC bantamweight belt by trouncing former UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo in July 2020. Yan’s run with the belt was short, as he lost the title in his first attempted defense. Yan handed the strap to Aljamain Sterling in March 2021 after Yan blasted Sterling with an illegal knee that prevented Sterling from continuing.
In October 2021 Yan picked up the interim bantamweight title with a decision win over Cory Sandhagen. Yan’s next outing was a title unification matchup with Sterling. Sterling retained the belt with a split-decision win.
Yan followed his loss to Sterling with a split-decision setback to Sean O’Malley in October 2022. He then dropped a March 2023 scrap to Merab Dvalishvili by unanimous decision. Yan got back in the win column in March 2024 with a decision win over Song Yadong.
Following that victory, Yan earned a decision win over former UFC flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo in a five-round affair in November 2024. In his most recent outing, Yan earned a decision over Marcus McGhee in a three-round bout in July.
He got another shot at UFC gold at UFC 323, and he made the most of that opportunity, beating Dvalishvili by decision.
Yan has not fought since he regained UFC gold in December 20205.
