The Janata Dal (United) on Saturday (October 24, 2026) expelled its MLA from Bihar’s Mokarna, Anant Kumar Singh, from the party for six years, citing his “anti-party activities”.
The NDA coalition partner in Bihar has also urged the State Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar to make his membership from the House “null and void”.
“In accordance with the orders of Shri Umesh Singh Kushwaha Ji, the State President of JD(U), the primary membership of Mokama MLA Shri Anant Kumar Singh in JD(U) is hereby terminated due to his anti-party activities, disregard for the party’s directives, and campaigning in favor of the opposition party as well as against the party’s candidate in the recently concluded Legislative Council elections,” the JD(U) said in an official statement posted on X.

The termination comes against the backdrop of Mr. Singh’s boycott of JD(U) candidate Neera Kumar Singh contesting from Patna graduates’ constituency and supporting Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) candidate Anuj Singh.
In a notice signed by Bihar JD(U) president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, the party alleged that Mr. Singh had repeatedly ignored its directives and made derogatory remarks against senior leaders.

It also cited his campaign support for a rival party’s candidate contesting against the JD(U)’s official nominee as grounds for the action.
His wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, has also been expelled from the party for six years, with her primary membership terminated with immediate effect.
