Two more people have been arrested in Andhra Pradesh in connection with an alleged espionage conspiracy involving Pakistani intelligence operatives, news agency PTI reported, citing police.
The arrests of Bongu Ravi and Kadari Srinivas have taken the total number of people arrested in the case to four.
“The Andhra Pradesh Police Counter-Intelligence Cell has apprehended two additional persons in the espionage case involving PIOs, bringing the total number of arrests to four,” an intelligence official told PTI.
The investigation found that an unidentified woman using the name “Angel Payal” allegedly contacted Ravi through Facebook in 2023. Ravi was an employee of an engineering company at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. The woman claimed to work for a Dubai-based shipping company.
She allegedly persuaded Ravi to share information about ships and submarines at the naval dockyard in exchange for money. Ravi and his colleague Srinivas allegedly worked together and shared information about the number of ships and submarines at the restricted defence facility, the official told PTI.
Ravi allegedly received money from the woman in his bank account and later paid a share to Srinivas, the investigation found.
The case was registered at Malkapuram Police Station in Visakhapatnam on October 12, 2025, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Official Secrets Act, 1923.
Ravi was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. A Look-Out Circular was issued against Srinivas, who had left India for Saudi Arabia on October 11, 2025.
The Andhra Pradesh Police Counter-Intelligence Cell, in coordination with central intelligence agencies, traced Srinivas. He was intercepted at Delhi airport on October 11, while returning from Saudi Arabia and was taken to Malkapuram Police Station for questioning, the official told PTI.
A chargesheet had earlier been filed against Ravi, Srinivas and the unidentified woman before the court concerned. Further investigation is underway.
On October 6, the Andhra Pradesh Police Counter-Intelligence Cell arrested two people, including a naval staff member, for allegedly spying for Pakistan. Of the 18 suspects in the case, 13 are naval personnel.
Investigators are examining suspected attempts to obtain sensitive defence information through fake social media identities, honey traps, financial inducements and WhatsApp activation one-time passwords.
The case centres on allegations that sensitive information about a restricted defence facility was shared for money, with the latest arrests raising the total number of people held to four.
