Apple is entering the foldable smartphone market with iPhone Duo, which opens for pre-orders in India at 5:30 PM IST today. Sales begin on October 23, making the tech giant’s first folding smartphone available to Indian buyers alongside launches in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
iPhone Duo marks a new direction for Apple at a premium price. Buyers can pick from four storage options. Prices rise as storage increases.
Apple's early preparation window closed at 9:30 AM IST today. Buyers who saved their configuration, accessories, and trade-in details earlier can use that setup for a faster checkout. Pre-orders open at 5:30 PM IST. Anyone who misses the deadline can still place a normal pre-order through Apple's website or the Store app.
What the Folding Design Offers
iPhone Duo uses a book-style design with two displays. The 5.4-inch outer screen handles everyday tasks when the phone is closed. Unfolding it reveals a 7.6-inch display. That extra space helps with reading, watching videos, and running two apps at once. Apple calls it the largest iPhone display ever made.
The company says the inner screen offers about 50% more display area than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Closed, the outer screen still covers more than 90 percent of the screen area on the iPhone 18 Pro, so everyday use does not feel cramped.
The design combines a titanium frame, a redesigned hinge, and a vapor-cooled A20 Pro chip, paired with a dual-battery system that supports performance and battery life inside a folding body. Its long-term durability will become clearer through everyday use.
Price, Storage, and the Buying Trade-Off
The gap between the base model and the top-tier version is Rs 1.5 lakh. Buyers should pick storage based on how they actually use a phone. The 256GB model may suit people who mostly browse, message, and take occasional photos. Buyers who record a lot of video, download media for offline viewing, or store large files may need more room.
Two colors are available at launch: Star White and Night Sky. The phone also carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Under IEC standard 60529, Apple rates it for a maximum depth of six meters for up to 30 minutes. This is a lab rating, not a promise against water damage. Resistance can also fade with normal wear.
How to Pre-Order the iPhone Duo in India
Pre-orders open through the Apple Store app and Apple India website at 5:30 PM IST today. Selected retail partners are expected to offer the iPhone Duo from October 23.
Buyers who want to book during the opening window should use Apple's official channels. Saving a configuration in advance was optional. It only helped speed up checkout. It is not required to place a pre-order once the window opens.
The booking steps are simple. Open the Apple Store app or the Apple India website. Search for iPhone Duo. Pick a storage tier and a color. Tap Pre-order and fill in payment or financing details. Confirm the delivery address and review the order summary before submitting.
Buyers thinking about EMI should check the financing options and bank offers at checkout. A no-cost EMI plan can spread payments without extra interest, depending on the offer's terms.
Check the total payable amount, processing fees, and eligibility before picking a plan. Anyone trading in an old phone can check Apple's exchange estimate at checkout too. That estimate may offset part of the price, depending on the condition and model of the device being traded in.

Who Should Pre-Order Today
Pre-ordering makes sense for buyers who already want a foldable iPhone and are fine with the price. Anyone unsure about the size, weight, or folding motion might prefer to try the device in a store first. Waiting gives a clearer sense of everyday comfort. It may also mean missing out on a preferred model or an early delivery slot.
A folding phone feels different in hand and in a pocket compared to a flat iPhone. Buyers new to foldables should weigh that difference against the cost of ordering without testing it first.
Store visits remain an option even after the October 23 launch for anyone who wants to try the hinge and inner screen before committing. Apple is also offering new accessories alongside the phone, including an iPhone Duo Case and a Folio with a kickstand. Buyers can check compatibility and pricing on these at checkout.
