Shaquille O’Neal has opened up about why he is not keen on making a documentary about his former teammate Kobe Bryant.
The two former Los Angeles Lakers stars formed one of the most dominant and iconic duos in NBA history and won three championships in a row together.
Since retirement, O’Neal has entered into several different ventures, and one of them is a production company. Is a Bryant documentary a potential future project? The answer is no.
Shaquille O’Neal names his condition to create a Kobe Bryant documentary
Bryant is always in the conversation when you are discussing the greatest basketball player of all time, and he is adored even to this day.
O’Neal knows about his old teammate’s ability more than anyone else, and with a production house now under him, we’re sure fans would love an in-depth documentary.
The hugely popular Allen Iv3rson docuseries on Prime was co-produced by O’Neal’s production company, Jersey Legends, and was highly acclaimed.
But no such series or documentary about Bryant is planned or is in the works, claims the former Lakers number 34, and he isn’t going to work on one unless his old pal’s family asks him to do so.
He told Variety: “I wouldn’t want to do one because that enigmatic, legendary story’s been told. If I was asked to do it by his family, then I would do it, but I’m not just going to do it to be doing it.”
The respect O’Neal has for Bryant’s legacy, as well as his family, is very clear to see in his statement above, where he has categorically refused to capitalise on their storied history just for entertainment.
That being said, should the Bryant family give their blessing and O’Neal agrees to create a docuseries, we’re convinced it would be a fantastic watch.
