The Chicago Bears once again appear to be a serious contender in the NFC. After winning the NFC North division title last year and earning the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, the Bears are currently 4-2 after their Week 6 win over the Atlanta Falcons on the road.
Caleb Williams made his return to the field against the Falcons. He completed 30 of his 36 pass attempts for 305 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions.
On paper, Chicago has the necessary talent to be a Super Bowl contender. However, there are still some clear holes the team could look to fill. With the NFL trade deadline coming up on November 10, rumors have started to fly.
Ryan Poles has had a very aggressive approach in recent years. Fans should not expect to see that change before the deadline. If the right move presents itself, the Bears will almost certainly pounce.
Keeping that in mind, one aggressive suggestion has been made that would see Chicago pursue a blockbuster trade for a $105.8 million star.
Chicago Bears Named Potential Trade Destination for Jeffery Simmons
The Athletic’s Daniel Popper recently created and publsihed a 2026 trade deadline big board. In that column, he suggested Chicago as a trade suitor for Tennessee Titans superstar defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons.
“Simmons signed a three-year extension in June. The Titans, however, are going nowhere fast under first-year coach Robert Saleh. They earned their first win of the season over the Colts in Week 6. They are nonetheless trending toward another top-five pick, and dealing Simmons would present an opportunity to add valuable draft capital. Simmons is guaranteed $26.95 million in base salary in 2027. He is also due a $5.5 million option bonus in September,” Popper wrote.
“Any acquiring team should be comfortable with those figures. Simmons is a game-wrecker as a run defender and pass rusher. Because of the extension, the Titans would take on $21.2 million in dead money in 2027 if they traded Simmons.”
Simmons is the kind of player who can completely change a defense. So far this season in six games, the 29-year-old has racked up 34 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and three defended passes.
Across his entire 105-game NFL career, Simmons has totaled 410 tackles, 46.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, and 30 defended passes.
Whether or not the Bears actually have interest in pursuing a trade for Simmons remains to be seen. Tennessee also has not been reported to be shopping him. But, it’s an idea worth keeping an eye on should the Titans decide to listen to offers.
