The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced that it will not recognize Associate Degree Programs (ADPs) offered through the annual examination system or private mode in Pakistan.
In an official public alert, HEC warned students, parents, and higher education institutions against enrolling in or offering such programs.
The commission clarified that it would not accept associate degrees obtained through annual or private examination systems for attestation or equivalence.
HEC also directed universities and colleges to stop offering or advertising these programs. Institutions must follow the HEC Undergraduate Education Policy 2023 (Version 1.1).
According to HEC, students must complete Associate Degree Programs through the regular semester system. An approved ADP consists of four semesters over two years.
Students must complete a minimum of 64 credit hours and a maximum of 72 credit hours to meet the program requirements.
The commission further clarified that the approved system does not allow two-year BA, BSc, or Associate Degree Programs through annual examinations or private study arrangements.
HEC advised students to check the recognition status and study mode of their chosen degree before seeking admission.
The commission also urged higher education institutions to immediately discontinue new admissions in ADPs offered through annual or private systems.
Students can review the official degree recognition requirements and relevant policies on the HEC website.
