Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday dissolved the State Executive Council, the highest decision-making body in the state, ahead of his second-term inauguration on Friday, October 16.
The governor announced the dissolution at a valedictory session with members of the SEC held at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti.
However, the dissolution did not affect the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Habibat Adubiaro; the Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo; and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode.
A statement by Oyebode disclosed that “the dissolution is part of the administrative process of winding down the first-term administration, which ends on Thursday, October 15.”
Oyebanji thanked members of the cabinet “for their meritorious service and contributions to the development of the state. The government and people of Ekiti State owe you a debt of gratitude for your commitment and selfless service.”
The governor particularly thanked God for graciously preserving the lives of all the cabinet members, adding that he did not take the grace for granted.
According to the CPS, at the valedictory session preceding the dissolution, the commissioners and special advisers, who took turns to thank the governor for the opportunity to serve in his administration, also reflected on their experiences as members of the state’s highest decision-making body.
The cabinet members commended Oyebanji’s leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to the development of Ekiti State, pledging to continue contributing to its progress in other capacities.
Recall that the governor had late last month dissolved the boards, commissions and parastatals in the state, as well as terminated the appointments of political appointees.
Oyebanji was first inaugurated as Governor of Ekiti State on October 16, 2022. Following his re-election on June 20, 2026, his second-term inauguration is scheduled to hold on Friday, October 16, at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.
