On Sunday, October 25, hundreds of runners will take part in the annual RDC Marathon. The race features a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K in support of the Team Drea Foundation.
The foundation was created by Andrea Peet, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2014 at the age of 33. Despite the disease's typical 2 to 5 year prognosis, Peet has continued to defy the odds, even becoming the first person with ALS to complete a marathon in all 50 states. Participants and spectators can expect to see her on the course this year, riding her signature green trike.
The RDC Marathon is a USATF-certified, Boston Qualifier course that winds along the American Tobacco Trail with its start and finish at The Streets at Southpoint in Durham. The marathon and half marathon begin at 7:10 a.m., followed by the 10K and 5K at 7:45 a.m.
Racers will gather in the mall parking lot just west of the AMC movie theaters.

The course
The course was designed to showcase many of the local's favorite areas of the mall and the surrounding area, including The Streets at Southpoint, the City of Durham and the American Tobacco Trail (ATT). The ATT has long been a favorite destination for local runners to escape for a lunchtime jog or a weekend twenty mile run. The course showcases the diversity of the local area, from modern urban city to quiet forest trails to open farmland.
ABC11 is a proud sponsor of the RDC Marathon.
