SanDisk has officially launched the 500GB variant of its ELE SE Portable SSD, offering a pocket-sized storage solution designed for everyday reliability and speed. The 500GB version is currently available for purchase in China starting at CNY 499 (around $75), with initial retail listings going live on JD.com. This newly introduced capacity joins a growing lineup of external drives aimed at users who need quick data transfers without the premium price tag typically associated with professional-grade solid-state drives.
The ELE series originally made its debut in September 2025 as a budget-conscious, ultra-portable solid-state storage line. At launch, the baseline ELE models featured transfer speeds of up to 400MB/s and were available in larger 1TB and 2TB configurations. To deliver faster performance for a more demanding consumer base, SanDisk upgraded the lineup with the ELE SE series, boosting maximum read speeds up to 600MB/s and first introducing a 1TB version in May 2026.
The new 500GB SanDisk ELE SE Portable SSD delivers its read speeds of up to 600MB/s via a versatile USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C interface. This connection standard ensures seamless plug-and-play compatibility across a wide range of modern devices, including Windows PCs, MacBooks, Android smartphones, and the latest USB-C-equipped iPads and iPhones.
Beyond raw speed, the drive is engineered to survive the rigors of a daily commute or travel. It features a robust solid-state build with absolutely no moving parts, making it inherently resistant to mechanical failure from typical impacts. SanDisk has officially rated the drive for up to 2-meter drop protection to withstand daily bumps, drops, and tumbles, whether it is tossed loosely into a backpack or carried in a pocket.
Physically, the rectangular chassis measures just 75mm long, 45mm wide, and 10mm thick, and it weighs a mere 31.7 grams. The drive also integrates a built-in loop, allowing users to easily secure it to a carabiner, lanyard, or keyring for safe transport.

I’ve been obsessed with tech for as long as I can remember, so much so that I’ve become the unofficial "tech support" for my entire family. Whether it’s fixing gadgets, explaining specs, or recommending the best buys, I love breaking down tech for everyday people. That passion led me to writing about tech. When I’m not testing gadgets or writing reviews, you’ll probably find me hiking or doom-scrolling car listings (still hunting for my first ride, wish me luck, lol).
