Ukraine’s navy said on Thursday, Oct. 15, that an overnight Neptune missile strike hit six Russian Su-34M bombers at a military airfield in Russia’s Voronezh region.
The attack targeted Borisoglebsk airfield and also destroyed equipment used to support flight operations, the navy said in a statement posted on social media.

Secondary explosions and a fire were recorded at the airfield. The navy said information about the consequences of the strike was still being clarified.
“On the night of Oct. 14-15, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ navy struck the Borisoglebsk military airfield in Russia’s Voronezh region using the Neptune coastal missile system,” it said.
The navy reported that six Su-34M aircraft had been hit without specifying the extent of damage – whether destroyed or simply damaged.
The Su-34M can carry multiple guided and unguided aerial bombs, as well as missiles of various types. It is described as one of Russia’s principal platforms for launching guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian defensive positions and communities near the front line.
The navy said hitting the bombers would weaken Russia’s aviation capabilities and reduce its ability to conduct tactical air operations in the affected sectors.
